about
Dave Rothkopf, my great friend and bassist for The Good, celebrated a milestone birthday recently, for which the Rock and Roll Rabbi Seth Limmer recruited several of Dave's musician friends to put together a surprise compilation of Dave cover songs.
I teamed up with a few of the usual suspects to record a blistering (can I say that?) version of "Slip On Through," written by Dave and Dan Myers for their band Down The Line. This version was recorded in one raucous evening by the brilliant Bryan Clavey at Crystall Recorders Studio in Lombard, IL, which is an absolute jewel of a music room. Hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it.
lyrics
Jeanie never worked, she just worked it out
That's how the deal is done
She took my high to another guy
She just took and run
I locked her in, locked her in real tight
She knew not to fight
You slip on through
You just slip on through
You slip on through
Jeanie took my stash down through Key Biscayne
She used another name
She packed it in, packed it in real tight
And she got on that flight
She's not my mule and she's not a fool
An ass that pays all right
Jeanie took a fall, tried to take it all
That's how the deal plays out
A dirty cell in a foreign hell
You'd never hear her shout
She's not a fool, she'll just play it cool
Cause she makes her own rules
She just slipped on through
